Surgery Day :(

Today is the big day. The day we have been looking forward to and dreading. Looking forward to because we know that she will not go home with us until it is done. Dreading because we are so sad that JB is going through this and so many things could happen (but I'm trying to keep those things out of my mind). We have enjoyed this past week with Jane Baird so much. She has been awake, alert, and oh so sweet just like her normal self. Although she looks so good on the outside (minus the OG tube) we know that she is still very sick on the inside. It is so easy to forget she is sick when you are with her. Today during surgery Dr. Georgeson will go down her trachea and esophagus with a camera and take a look around. When they know exactly where the fistula is and what they are dealing with they are going to open her chest (through the same incision as before which has healed so nicely, by the way) and deflate her lungs. They will then close off the fistula and patch it with something like muscle to prevent it from connecting again. Dr. Georgeson said he cannot give us a 100% guarantee that the fistula will not reoccur, but he said it is very unlikely. We are so lucky to have Dr. Georgeson as our surgeon. He is a world-renowned surgeon and famous for his work with TEF patients like Jane Baird. We had heard of him before but once he became Jane Baird's surgeon we read up on him. He has a VERY impressive resume and has been well-published. He is also the president of several very prestigious organizations in the medical world (can't remember the names though). He is also a very kind man with a kind heart. He loves children and has devoted his life to saving children all over the world. Jane Baird and I have gotten to know Dr. G pretty well over the past 4 months will her surgeries and visits to the clinic. Jane Baird still smiles at him when he walks into the room. We are so thankful for him! I was going to tell a really sweet story about Jane Baird but I'm running late and have to hurry to the hospital so I can spend every second possible with her before the surgery. Please keep her and the doctors in your prayers today (oh and say one for Alan and me too). I will give an update tonight!
