Jane Baird Update

Jane Baird is doing great! She is on the ventilator, has an NG tube, and has a chest tube. She is breathing over the ventilator and has had great blood gas levels. The vent setting right now is 17 and really she could have been extubated this morning, but the doctors wanted to give her one more day for recovery. Jane Baird is on a Fentanyl drip for pain and Versed to calm her when she needs it. She also gets Tylenol every 6 hours. She woke up several times today and managed to give Alan and me a smile this morning (a half-smile). She gets agitated easily so we try to let her sleep and don't touch her unless we are trying to calm her down. The more rest she gets now, the better and faster she will heal! This morning JB's nurse noticed that her PICC line was leaking so she called a PICC nurse to come and see about it. As it turns out, the PICC line was almost all the way out so they had no choice but to pull it and re-do it. We left at 2:00 when they started and then I called around 3:30 to check to see if it went ok. I was so worried that the only juicy vein they would find would be in her scalp, but luckily they were able to get it in her right arm. Jane Baird was a sleepy girl tonight! She slept soundly all night unless she was being suctioned out. She cries when she get suctioned. She just hates that and I can't say that I blame her. Please continue to pray for Jane Baird. She is doing great but still has at least two weeks of recovery ahead of her. We are so proud of our tough little girl. She is such a little fighter...way tougher than her parents!
