Jane Baird went to Children's Hospital this morning to get tubes in both ears. The doctor also noticed that she sounded hoarse and gurgly so he wanted to a bronchoscopy to take a look at her vocal chords and take a peak in her lungs to see if her epiglottis was functioning properly. Alan and I were so nervous and scared because we hadn't prepared ourselves for bad news. Jane Baird was a champ going back to the OR. Ashley (the same nurse that ALWAYS comes to get her for surgery) surprised us and came to get her even though she doesn't do patient care anymore...we thought that was really sweet and cool. JB did great during surgery. She had to be put under heavy anesthesia because of the extra procedures and was very groggy and in a really BAD mood when they brought her to us.
The doctors said she had infection in both ears and the tubes went in just fine. Her epiglottis is functioning normally (praise the Lord!). The only problem they found was bump or knot on her right vocal chord. It sticks out far enough to prevent her chords from completely closing which explains why she chokes when eating sometimes. The bump is not cancerous (my first question to the doctor) and he said it could be a saliva cyst or something that came up as a result of past surgeries or procedures. He said he could laser it off but he wanted to just keep an eye on it for now. AND one more bit of good news: her acid reflux has improved!
Jane Baird has been VERY sick and pitiful since we've been home. She has had fever, shivers, chills, vomiting and has been moaning and groaning all night. She is so so pitiful. She has never been this sick after surgery. I may have to take her to the doctor tomorrow if she still has a fever. Please pray for her!!!
