Finally Extubated!!!
We walked in the NICU at 9:00 this morning to find that Jane Baird had been extubated! We are thrilled (and Jane Baird is too...she hated that enormous tube down her throat). Her blood gas levels have all been PERFECT! No more Chest PTs, no more Albuterol, and we are even getting rid of the ART line that always leaked blood. She is coughing a lot which is helping to clear her lungs. Her lungs are still not well, but the chest x-rays are looking better everyday.
The best part about the day was getting to hold my precious baby in my arms after 11 long days. She was wide awake and we got a few smiles out of her. She was trying to talk to me and tell me all about what she had been through. I requested that she be moved into a big girl crib and within an hour, they granted my request! Now she is in a crib that she actually fits in...her feet hung off the other bed. Our nurses have been so good to us :)
We probably won't have any more big news for at least a week. We are waiting for her esophagram (swollow study) to see if she has healed on her own. That will be done in a week or two. I will continue to post pics though, so keep checking the blog!
